Trump Endorses Vivek Ramaswamy for Ohio Governor, Calls Him “Something Special”

US President Donald Trump has officially endorsed Vivek Ramaswamy, the Indian-origin entrepreneur and former Republican presidential candidate, for the 2026 Ohio Governor’s race, calling him “something special” and a “true patriot.”

Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, his social media platform, where he lauded Ramaswamy’s leadership, intelligence, and commitment to conservative principles.

“Vivek Ramaswamy is running for Governor of the Great State of Ohio — a place I love and won big three times — in 2016, 2020, and 2024. I know Vivek well, competed against him, and he is something SPECIAL. He is Young, Strong, and Smart,” Trump wrote.

The endorsement came just hours after Ohio voters went to the polls for preliminary statewide elections, with the official gubernatorial race set for next year.

Trump’s Full Support for Ramaswamy

In his statement, Trump outlined a series of policies he expects Ramaswamy to champion if elected — including tax cuts, border security, and a renewed focus on “Made in the USA” manufacturing.

“Vivek Ramaswamy will be a GREAT Governor of Ohio, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement – HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” Trump declared.

The endorsement cements the alliance between Trump and Ramaswamy, who forged a close political relationship during the 2024 Republican presidential primaries. Ramaswamy was one of Trump’s most vocal defenders during the debates and eventually suspended his campaign in January 2024 to endorse Trump for President.

Ramaswamy’s Political Rise

A 39-year-old biotech entrepreneur turned political figure, Ramaswamy gained national recognition through his fiery rhetoric, anti-establishment stance, and focus on cultural conservatism. He is best known for his book Woke, Inc., in which he criticizes corporate activism and advocates for meritocracy.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Indian immigrant parents, Ramaswamy has long emphasized his American roots while acknowledging his heritage. His father, an engineer, and mother, a geriatric psychiatrist, immigrated from Kerala. Ramaswamy attended Harvard University and Yale Law School, later founding Roivant Sciences, a biotechnology company that made him a multimillionaire before he turned 35.

In May 2025, the Ohio Republican Party officially endorsed Ramaswamy after weeks of internal lobbying and public support from Donald Trump Jr., who urged GOP members on X (formerly Twitter) to unite behind him.

The Road to 2026

Ramaswamy’s campaign is expected to focus on economic revival, law enforcement, and cutting bureaucratic waste — themes that echo Trump’s America First agenda. He currently co-leads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) alongside Elon Musk, an initiative aimed at modernizing public administration.

Trump’s endorsement could give Ramaswamy a decisive edge in Ohio’s crowded Republican primary. Political analysts note that Trump’s support remains a powerful force in Midwest politics, particularly in Ohio, where his approval ratings remain high among conservative voters.

As one of the most prominent Indian-origin figures in American politics, Ramaswamy’s rise signals the continued diversification of the Republican Party — and a deepening connection between Indian-American leadership and Trump’s political orbit.

If successful, Ramaswamy would become the first Indian-American Governor of Ohio, a historic milestone in both U.S. and diaspora politics.
