Yami Gautam Wins First National Award for Article 370: ‘Still a Lot to Learn’

Yami Gautam is still taking in the significance of her first National Film Award, after receiving the Best Actress honour for her performance in Article 370 at the 72nd National Film Awards. The award was presented by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held in Gujarat's Ekta Nagar.

Speaking after the ceremony, Yami described the recognition as a major honour for artists who spend years pursuing their dreams and building their careers. She said the award made her reflect on the journey of people who come to the city with ambitions without knowing what the future holds.

Despite the milestone, Yami said she does not see the National Award as an endpoint. She emphasised the importance of continuing to work hard, learn and take on meaningful projects, adding that she still has much to learn and plenty of work ahead.

Article 370 also received multiple honours at the ceremony. The film won Best Feature Film, while composer Shashwat Sachdev was recognised with the award for Best Music Direction.

Directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, Article 370 features Yami alongside Priyamani, Skand Thakur, Ashwini Kaul, Vaibhav Tatwawadi, Arun Govil and Kiran Karmarkar. Released in February 2024, the film is based around events following the 2019 revocation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status. It is currently streaming on Netflix.
