Union Home Minister Amit Shah has launched a fresh attack on Rahul Gandhi, predicting that the Congress will remain out of power for another 30 years. His remarks came amid Opposition protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and allegations of irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
Speaking at an event where projects worth ₹8,941 crore for cleaning the Yamuna were launched, Shah took a swipe at Gandhi over his reported four-day visit to Vietnam.
Addressing the Congress leader, Shah said Gandhi could listen to his remarks after returning to Delhi and predicted that the Congress would not get another opportunity to form a government for three decades. He also described Gandhi's foreign travel as a personal matter while questioning the timing of the visit.
BJP Targets Rahul Gandhi Over Vietnam Visit
The BJP has criticised Gandhi for reportedly travelling abroad while Congress and its allies participate in protests over the SIR exercise and the role of the Chief Election Commissioner.
The party shared a video on X purportedly showing Gandhi aboard a flight to Vietnam and questioned the purpose of his overseas visits.
BJP leaders, including Sambit Patra and Pradeep Bhandari, also made allegations about Gandhi's political activities and foreign contacts. These claims were presented as accusations by BJP leaders and were not independently established in the information provided.
The Congress, meanwhile, maintained that Gandhi was entitled to travel during his personal time.
Amit Shah Rejects Congress's Vote Theft Allegations
Shah also challenged the Congress's allegations of electoral manipulation, citing the party's prolonged absence from power in several states.
He referred to the Congress's electoral record in West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh and Delhi, arguing that the party's repeated defeats could not simply be attributed to claims of rigged elections.
Shah said the BJP remained focused on addressing public concerns and criticised protests that, in his view, lacked concrete plans for governance. He urged opposition leaders to present practical solutions in the constituencies they represent.
Yamuna Cleaning Becomes Political Flashpoint
Turning to river pollution, Shah accused the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress of failing to clean the Yamuna during their periods in power.
He said BJP-led governments would work towards cleaning the river along its course, from Yamunotri to the Sangam, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.
The remarks added another layer to the political confrontation between the BJP and Congress, with Gandhi's reported foreign visit, SIR-related protests and allegations over electoral integrity emerging as key points of contention.
