Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the younger brother of King Charles III, has reportedly launched legal proceedings against Thames Valley Police over his arrest in connection with documents linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The former prince was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The allegations relate to claims that he passed government documents to Epstein while serving as a UK trade representative between 2001 and 2011.
Andrew Challenges Police Action
According to reports, Andrew has asked a judge to examine whether the police action against him was lawful.
His legal challenge reportedly involves the search warrants used by Thames Valley Police to search properties connected to him, including his home on the Sandringham Estate and his former residence at Royal Lodge in Windsor.
Andrew was questioned by detectives after his detention as police investigated allegations that documents were shared with Epstein during his time as a trade envoy.
The police investigation was reportedly based partly on documents released by the US Justice Department relating to Epstein.
Andrew Denies Wrongdoing
Andrew has denied wrongdoing connected to Epstein and has previously expressed regret over his association with the disgraced financier.
The legal action does not itself establish whether the allegations against Andrew are true. A judicial review would instead examine whether the relevant police decisions and procedures were lawful.
Thames Valley Police and Buckingham Palace had not immediately commented on the reported legal challenge.
Epstein Ties Ended Andrew’s Royal Role
Andrew’s association with Epstein has had a lasting impact on his public life.
He stepped away from official royal duties in 2019 following growing criticism over his relationship with Epstein. His position within the royal family was later further reduced, with his titles and honours stripped amid renewed scrutiny of the relationship.
The latest legal challenge puts the actions of Thames Valley Police under judicial scrutiny while the allegations surrounding Andrew and Epstein continue to attract international attention.
