Bangladeshi Worker at Indian Naval Academy Arrested, 6th Detention in Kannur

Kerala Police have arrested a 32-year-old Bangladeshi national who was working as a temporary employee at the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala, near Payyannur, taking the number of Bangladeshi nationals arrested in Kannur over four days to six.

Police said the man, identified as Viplav Soren, had been working at the naval academy for around a year. Authorities are yet to establish whether the name and identity documents provided by him are genuine. Police have also not disclosed the nature of his work at the academy or commented on whether his presence there posed a security concern.

The arrest follows the detention of five Bangladeshi women in Kannur for allegedly staying in India without valid documents. Four women were arrested after police raided a rented house in Odenparambu following a tip-off about suspected illegal migrants. Officials said the women were working at a spa in Kannur and allegedly possessed Bangladeshi identity cards along with forged Indian documents.

According to police, the women told investigators that they obtained the allegedly fake documents in Assam before travelling to Kerala for employment. Cases were registered against them under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, and they were subsequently remanded in judicial custody.

The latest arrest is part of an ongoing police investigation into the identities, documentation and circumstances surrounding the presence of Bangladeshi nationals in the district.
