Netflix is set to add another emotionally rich Korean romantic comedy to its global slate with Can This Love Be Translated?, scheduled to premiere on January 16. The upcoming series brings together acclaimed actors Kim Seon-ho and Go Youn-jung in a story that explores how love, understanding and connection can transcend spoken language.
The newly released trailer offers a glimpse into a romance shaped not just by words, but by pauses, gestures and emotions that often go unspoken. Set against a global backdrop spanning multiple countries, the series follows the evolving bond between a multilingual interpreter and a world-famous celebrity as they navigate professional pressures and personal vulnerabilities.
At the centre of the story is Joo Ho-jin, played by Kim Seon-ho, a highly skilled interpreter who excels at translating complex languages but struggles when it comes to expressing his own emotions. His life takes an unexpected turn when he crosses paths with Cha Mu-hee, portrayed by Go Youn-jung, a globally celebrated actress who appears confident in public but finds it difficult to articulate her deepest feelings in private.
As their worlds collide through a television project, the two are forced to confront not only linguistic differences but emotional ones as well. The trailer highlights moments of hesitation, silent understanding and subtle acts of care — suggesting that emotional fluency may be harder to master than linguistic accuracy.
The series poses a central question: can love truly be translated? Through its characters, the show suggests that understanding intent, emotion and vulnerability may matter more than perfect words.
The project is backed by a notable creative lineup. The screenplay comes from the Hong Sisters, known for crafting emotionally resonant and imaginative narratives in popular dramas such as Hotel Del Luna and Alchemy of Souls. Direction is handled by Yoo Young-eun, who previously earned praise for his work on Bloody Heart.
With this combination of writers and director, expectations are high that the series will deliver both emotional depth and visual polish.
Rather than focusing on grand romantic gestures, the trailer leans into quiet, relatable emotions — the pause before a confession, the uncertainty hidden behind a smile, and the comfort found in shared silence. These moments underline the show’s core idea: that love often speaks loudest when words fail.
The narrative emphasises that translation is not about literal accuracy but about conveying feeling and intent. This philosophy mirrors the relationship between the lead characters, whose connection grows as they learn to understand each other beyond spoken language.
With its international setting and universal themes, Can This Love Be Translated? is positioned to appeal to a wide global audience. The series reflects modern relationships shaped by cultural differences, emotional distance and the challenges of communication in an increasingly connected world.
As anticipation builds ahead of its January 16 release, the drama promises a tender exploration of love that resonates across borders — suggesting that the deepest connections are often felt, not spoken.
