Actor Parineeti Chopra's performance in Reporting Live has earned praise from director Dhruv Tripathi, who says the actor understood her character's ambition and vulnerability from the beginning. In an interview, Tripathi discussed her approach to playing Sandhya, the film's sensitive subject matter and the mixed reactions it has received.
According to the filmmaker, Parineeti immediately connected with Sandhya's determination and the need to portray her as a believable journalist rather than an idealised hero. He said the actor drew on her experiences of interacting with journalists over the years to bring authenticity to the character.
Tripathi described Sandhya as ambitious and impulsive, someone who makes mistakes, faces the consequences and continues moving forward. He also credited Parineeti's commitment to the filmmaking process, saying her understanding of the character's strengths and vulnerabilities helped ground the story.
Dhruv Tripathi on Parineeti Chopra's Acting Potential
Asked whether the industry had fully explored Parineeti's abilities, Tripathi focused on his experience of working with her. He described her as a talented and established actor whose dedication helped the team bring something special to the film.
The director added that Parineeti, as an experienced performer, understands the scripts and characters she wants to pursue. He said the team was fortunate that she connected so strongly with both the story and Sandhya's role.
Reporting Live Explores Journalism and Illegal Sand Mining
Beyond its central performance, Reporting Live examines journalism against the backdrop of illegal sand mining. Tripathi explained that the film draws inspiration from multiple real-life incidents but remains fictional, with no intention of identifying a particular person, organisation or incident.
He said the filmmakers wanted to explore the grey areas surrounding the subject rather than present a straightforward conflict between right and wrong. According to Tripathi, the studio and producers supported the creative approach.
The film has received mixed reviews, with some critics suggesting that illegal sand mining deserved a more hard-hitting treatment. Tripathi, however, said audiences were entitled to their own interpretations and that filmmakers could not dictate what viewers should take away from a story.
The Human Cost of Seeking the Truth
For Tripathi, the central focus of Reporting Live remains the characters Sandhya and Vinod, their experiences in journalism and the consequences of approaching a dangerous story.
He said the world of sand mining provides the setting, while the deeper question concerns the personal cost of pursuing the truth. The director expressed confidence in the film's treatment, adding that the finished work now belongs to its audience.
