The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has completed 12 consecutive months without losing any personnel in operational duties, marking its first such achievement in 47 years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the force for reaching the milestone, describing the achievement as a significant moment for India's largest paramilitary force.
"A zero speaks volumes," Modi said in a post on X on Tuesday, sharing a graphic highlighting zero CRPF casualties over 12 consecutive months. He noted that this was the first time in 47 years that the force had achieved such a record.
CRPF Director General GP Singh also announced the development, confirming that the last operational fatality was reported on October 30, 2025. According to Singh, the previous comparable period ended in January 1979.
Nine Personnel Were Killed in Operational Duties in 2025
Officials said nine CRPF personnel lost their lives while performing operational duties between January 1 and October 30, 2025. The force has since completed a full year without an operational fatality, despite sustained and intensified operations across multiple deployment areas.
A senior CRPF officer described the development as a satisfying achievement, pointing to improvements in the security situation and the force's efforts to learn from past operational experiences.
The milestone comes as CRPF personnel continue to operate in challenging security environments across the country.
CRPF's Role in India's Internal Security
With approximately 3.25 lakh personnel, the CRPF is India's largest paramilitary force. It plays a major role in maintaining internal security and conducting operations in several violence-affected regions.
Its responsibilities include anti-Naxal operations, counter-terrorism duties in Jammu and Kashmir and counter-insurgency operations in northeastern states.
The force was established in 1939 under British rule and was renamed the Central Reserve Police Force in 1949, two years after India's Independence.
More Than 2,270 Personnel Have Laid Down Their Lives
According to official data cited in the report, 2,270 CRPF personnel, including officers and jawans, have lost their lives in the line of duty so far.
The latest milestone is significant given the force's long history of deployment in demanding internal security operations. Completing 12 months without an operational fatality marks an important achievement for its personnel and leadership.
Prime Minister Modi's appreciation also highlights the importance of operational preparedness and the safety of security personnel serving across the country.
