Cyclone Ditwa Nears Tamil Nadu–Andhra Coast; Heavy Rainfall and Alerts Issued

Cyclone Ditwa continues to inch closer to the Indian coastline, prompting Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh to remain on high alert. The storm, currently positioned near Sri Lanka, is steadily advancing toward the northern Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh coasts, where it is expected to make landfall by Sunday evening.

Reporting from the Chennai command center, an official said the cyclone is now around 330 km away, moving at 7 km per hour. Authorities are closely tracking its trajectory and intensity as it progresses over the Bay of Bengal.

Tamil Nadu Steps Up Preparedness

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has reviewed state preparedness and held a series of video conferences with district collectors to assess ground readiness. Coastal districts and disaster response teams have been placed on standby.

Heavy rainfall has already lashed delta regions including Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, and nearby areas, raising concerns about flooding and waterlogging.

Andhra Pradesh Also Monitoring Impact

Southern Andhra Pradesh districts are bracing for potential heavy rainfall, strong winds, and rough sea conditions as the cyclone approaches. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, and coastal evacuation plans are under review.

Authorities in both states are urging residents in vulnerable low-lying areas to stay alert and follow official advisories.
