EC Extends Special Intensive Revision by 7 Days; Draft Electoral Roll on December 16

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) schedule by one week in 12 States and Union Territories, offering voters additional time to verify and update their details in the electoral rolls ahead of upcoming elections.

The extension applies to:
Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.

The move supersedes the Commission’s earlier notification and aims to improve the accuracy, transparency, and inclusiveness of the voter lists.

Revised Timeline Announced by Election Commission

The updated schedule for the SIR process is:

  • Enumeration Period: Extended to 11 December 2025 (Thursday)

  • Rationalisation & Re-arrangement of Polling Stations: By 11 December 2025

  • Updation of Control Table & Draft Roll Prep: 12–15 December 2025

  • Draft Electoral Roll Publication: 16 December 2025 (Tuesday)

  • Claims & Objections Window: 16 December 2025 to 15 January 2026

  • Notice Phase (Hearing & Verification): 16 December 2025 to 7 February 2026

    • EROs will simultaneously process claims, objections, and enumeration forms

The ECI noted that the SIR is a critical step toward ensuring that rolls remain updated and reflect all eligible voters, especially ahead of key state elections in 2026.

The Commission urged citizens in the affected states and UTs to use the extra time to check their names, file objections, and correct errors, ensuring they remain eligible to participate in the democratic process.
