Delhi CNG Price Hiked by Rs 3.89: Check New Delhi-NCR Rates

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has increased the retail price of compressed natural gas (CNG) by Rs 3.89 per kg across Delhi and the National Capital Region, citing a sharp rise in international liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices amid the ongoing West Asia crisis.

The revised rates came into effect from 6 am on August 29. In Delhi, CNG now costs Rs 86.98 per kg, up from Rs 83.09 per kg.

The new CNG prices are Rs 92.01 per kg in Gurugram, Rs 111.87 per kg in Noida and Rs 95.59 per kg in Ghaziabad.

IGL said global LNG prices have nearly doubled since July as the escalation of tensions in West Asia disrupted LNG cargo movements through the Strait of Hormuz.

The company said Delhi's CNG consumers had largely been protected from volatility in imported spot LNG prices despite the sharp increase in international gas costs.

However, IGL said the latest increase had become necessary because a significant share of the gas used for CNG is sourced from imported spot LNG.

INTERNATIONAL LNG PRICES RISE SHARPLY

IGL said European TTF gas prices increased from around USD 11.36 per MMBTU in late February to approximately USD 23.35 per MMBTU by August 27, representing a rise of about 105 per cent.

Asian JKM LNG prices also climbed from around USD 10.99 per MMBTU to USD 23.41 per MMBTU during the same period, an increase of nearly 113 per cent.

In comparison, the CNG price in Delhi increased from Rs 77.09 per kg to Rs 83.09 per kg over the period, a rise of around 7.8 per cent before the latest revision.

IGL attributed the international price surge to uncertainty and disruptions affecting LNG shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.

The company also pointed to higher demand for natural gas storage in Europe ahead of the winter season as another factor supporting elevated global gas prices.

IGL described the latest increase as a calibrated move intended to partially offset higher input gas costs while maintaining reliable CNG supplies.

NEW CNG RATES ACROSS DELHI-NCR

Following the latest revision, the retail CNG prices are:

  • Delhi: Rs 86.98 per kg

  • Gurugram: Rs 92.01 per kg

  • Noida: Rs 111.87 per kg

  • Ghaziabad: Rs 95.59 per kg

The increase is likely to raise fuel expenses for commuters, taxi operators, auto-rickshaw drivers and other vehicle owners dependent on CNG across the National Capital Region.

IGL SAYS CNG REMAINS COMPETITIVE

Despite the price increase, IGL said CNG remains one of the more economical alternatives for consumers compared with other fuels.

The company said it remains committed to keeping CNG competitive, cleaner and dependable while working to optimise sourcing costs.

IGL operates city gas distribution networks across Delhi, parts of the NCR and several other cities. Its network spans more than 30,000 km of pipelines and includes over 1,000 CNG stations.

The company supplies CNG to more than 2.1 million vehicles and piped natural gas to nearly 3.5 million households across its operating areas.

The latest hike reflects the growing impact of international gas-market volatility on domestic CNG prices, particularly as imported LNG becomes an increasingly important source of supply.
