The makers of the action blockbuster Dhurandhar have announced a global theatrical re-release of the film ahead of its sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge, giving audiences another chance to experience the story on the big screen.
The original film is being screened in around 500 theatres worldwide, including 250 cinemas across India beginning March 12 and another 250 international theatres starting March 13. The re-release comes just days before the sequel arrives in cinemas on March 19, 2026.
The move is designed to build excitement among fans and allow viewers to revisit the first chapter before watching the next instalment in the spy-action franchise.
The decision to bring Dhurandhar back to theatres reflects the strong popularity the film achieved during its initial release. Re-releases of blockbuster films occasionally take place in India, but international theatrical re-releases of Hindi movies are relatively uncommon.
The makers hope that the re-release will generate renewed interest in the storyline and characters before the launch of the sequel.
By allowing fans to watch the original film again in cinemas, the strategy also creates an opportunity for audiences to experience both parts of the story close to each other.
The re-release is not limited to India. The film will also be screened in several international markets, including a significant number of theatres in United States and Canada.
In North America alone, Dhurandhar will be shown in nearly 185 theatres, highlighting the growing global audience for Indian action films.
International screenings are expected to attract fans of the franchise as well as new viewers who may want to explore the story before the sequel’s release.
The upcoming sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge has already generated significant buzz among moviegoers. Promotional campaigns, music releases and teasers have contributed to the growing anticipation around the film.
Re-releasing the original movie shortly before the sequel arrives is a marketing strategy that helps audiences reconnect with the characters and storyline.
This approach has been used successfully in several global film franchises, allowing viewers to refresh their memory of the original story.
While special screenings and anniversary re-releases are sometimes organised in India, worldwide re-releases of Hindi films remain relatively rare.
The large-scale theatrical comeback of Dhurandhar across hundreds of screens demonstrates the confidence the makers have in the film’s popularity and the excitement surrounding its sequel.
With both films now set to be experienced in theatres within the same week, fans of the action franchise are preparing for a cinematic event that brings the story back to the big screen once again.
