India Cricket Team Faces Kit and Accommodation Issues Ahead of Asian Games 2026

India’s men’s cricket team is dealing with last-minute kit and accommodation issues ahead of its departure for the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya. Most jersey-sizing problems have reportedly been resolved, although a few players were still waiting for correctly sized official kits before travelling.

The Shreyas Iyer-led squad is scheduled to leave New Delhi early on September 20. India will first play a one-off T20I against Japan on September 22 in its regular team kit before switching to the official Asian Games jersey for the tournament.

The kit issue follows a similar situation involving shot-putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor, who was replaced by kabaddi player Pawan Sehrawat as India’s male flag-bearer for the opening ceremony after a delay in receiving his official Games kit.

The cricket team has also faced accommodation concerns. The rooms initially allocated in Nagoya reportedly did not provide enough space for the players’ cricket equipment, prompting the BCCI to make separate arrangements for the men’s squad.

India’s women’s cricket team, meanwhile, has already advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Japan by eight wickets. The men’s competition begins with the group stage before India enters directly at the quarter-final stage on September 28. India are the defending men’s Asian Games champions after winning gold in 2023.

With the immediate kit concerns largely addressed, the men’s team can now turn its attention to its Japan fixture and the upcoming medal campaign.
