Karan Johar Meets Prince William Ahead of Mumbai Earthshot Prize 2026

Karan Johar met Prince William in London ahead of the 2026 Earthshot Prize ceremony, which will be held in Mumbai on November 17. Their conversation focused on India’s environmental challenges, rainfall shortages, water stress and the country’s strong representation among this year’s finalists.

Prince William spoke about prolonged periods of inadequate rainfall and their impact on farmers and water supplies. He also recalled high temperatures in parts of India, highlighting growing awareness around water as a limited resource. Johar agreed that water concerns are increasingly becoming part of public conversations.

Johar will host the Mumbai ceremony, where 15 finalists are competing across the Earthshot Prize’s categories. Five winners will be selected, with each receiving £1 million to support their environmental initiatives.

William said India has produced more Earthshot finalists and winners than any other country and expressed excitement about bringing the event to Mumbai. Johar said the Indian representation made him particularly proud and highlighted the potential for environmental innovations to combine social impact with sustainable business opportunities.

The two also discussed finalists working on issues including wildfires and electric mobility. The 2026 programme will include a two-day Earthshot Prize Summit, bringing together innovators, businesses, funders, communities and global leaders.

With climate innovation meeting Mumbai glamour, this is one event where the red carpet comes with a sustainability checklist.
