DUSU Vote Counting Begins With 2,000+ Security Personnel Deployed

Counting of votes for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections began at 8 am on September 19 at the Multipurpose Hall of the University Sports Stadium in North Campus, with more than 2,000 police and paramilitary personnel deployed across the university. The four central posts being decided are president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary.

Security has been strengthened around the counting centre and other sensitive locations, with police teams, foot patrols, motorcycle units and PCR vans deployed to manage movement and prevent unauthorised gatherings. Traffic restrictions have also been imposed on stretches including Chhatra Marg, Probyn Road and University Road until the results are declared.

The 2026 contest featured candidates from major student organisations including the ABVP, NSUI and the AISA-SFI alliance. Polling on September 18 recorded a final turnout of 40.46% across 52 polling centres.

The counting process follows heightened attention to security after incidents and allegations of violence during the campaign. The Delhi High Court has issued notices to candidates and student organisations over alleged violations of election guidelines and has barred victory processions following the results.

In the 2025 DUSU elections, ABVP won three of the four central panel positions, while NSUI secured the vice-president’s post. The 2026 counting will determine the new university-level office-bearers.
