Former Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic PM Modi remarks have drawn attention after Vucic praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s role in strengthening India’s position globally while alleging that efforts were being made to undermine him.

Vucic made the comments in a podcast clip that circulated widely on Wednesday, as PM Modi marked 25 years of serving as the head of a government. Vucic described Modi as a leader who had helped make India a significant force on the world stage and credited him with having achieved what he called “tremendous things.”

Vucic alleges efforts to undermine Modi

Speaking about what he described as a wider pattern involving prominent political leaders, Vucic singled out PM Modi and said there was an effort to undermine him.

However, the former Serbian president did not identify who he believed was behind these alleged efforts or provide specific evidence for the claim.

Vucic has previously spoken positively about India's relationship with Serbia and Modi's leadership. On Wednesday, he also publicly congratulated the Prime Minister on reaching the 25-year milestone in public service, highlighting Modi's journey from Gujarat Chief Minister to Prime Minister.

The remarks were quickly amplified by BJP leaders, who presented Vucic's comments as recognition of Modi's international standing.

India-Serbia ties remain a focus

Vucic and Modi have maintained diplomatic engagement over the years. The two leaders met earlier in 2026 on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit, where they discussed strengthening cooperation in areas including defence and manufacturing.

Vucic had also attended the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in 2017, marking an earlier high-level interaction between the two countries.

Meanwhile, PM Modi's 25-year public service milestone has been marked by several official statements and events. The Prime Minister's Office said on October 7 that Modi had shared reflections highlighting values including service, purpose, conviction and courage.

The Indian government has also officially marked the milestone, with the Union Cabinet passing a resolution recognising 25 years of continuous leadership at the head of government.

Vucic's comments therefore come amid a broader public focus on Modi's political journey, but his claim about efforts to undermine the Prime Minister remains an attributed assertion, as he did not specify who was allegedly involved or provide supporting details.
