Fatima Bosch Wins Miss Universe 2025 After Public Controversy

Mexico’s Fatima Bosch was crowned Miss Universe 2025 in Bangkok on Friday, securing the 74th Miss Universe title after competing against more than 100 contestants. Last year’s winner, Victoria Theilvig of Denmark, passed on the crown as the arena erupted in applause for the 25-year-old Mexican beauty queen.

Bosch’s win carried emotional weight, not just for her performance but for the controversy she endured earlier this month during a live-streamed sash ceremony. The incident, involving Thai pageant executive Nawat Itsaragrisil, drew global attention and sparked conversations about respect, representation and professionalism in pageantry.

The ‘Dummy’ Controversy That Sparked Global Outrage

During the sash event, Itsaragrisil confronted Bosch over her absence from a promotional shoot and demanded an explanation on camera. The situation escalated when he referred to her as a “dummy”, a remark that shocked contestants, organisers and viewers.

Bosch immediately stood her ground, responding firmly:

“You are not respecting me as a woman, nor as a representative of my country.”

Her dignified pushback triggered applause from contestants. Soon after, more than a dozen participants — including reigning Miss Universe Victoria Theilvig — walked out in solidarity with Bosch. The incident became one of the most talked-about moments leading up to the pageant.

Following intense backlash, Itsaragrisil issued a public apology, claiming his comments were misunderstood and saying he had addressed the issue privately with the delegates.

Who Is Fatima Bosch?

Fatima Bosch grew up in Villahermosa, Tabasco and has long been known in Mexico for her passionate work with animals. Before pageantry put her on the global map, she had built a reputation for advocating animal welfare and community initiatives.

She has also been refreshingly open about her personal challenges — including dyslexia, ADHD and hyperactivity — describing them as formative battles that strengthened her resilience.

Her Journey:

  • Crowned Miss Universe Mexico 2025 in September

  • First runner-up: Praveenar Singh

  • Holds a degree in Fashion & Apparel Design from Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City

  • Continued her studies in Italy

  • First pageant title: Flor de Oro (Tabasco) in 2018

Bosch’s background, advocacy work and authenticity have contributed significantly to her growing influence both in Mexico and internationally.

Her Miss Universe win marks a powerful milestone — not only celebrating her achievement but symbolising her triumph over public scrutiny and prejudice.
