Hindu Family’s Home Torched in Bangladesh, Threat Note Calls It ‘Final Warning’

A fresh incident of violence against the Hindu community has been reported from Bangladesh, where miscreants allegedly set ablaze the home of a Hindu family, killing their pets and destroying all household belongings. A handwritten note found near the site issued a direct threat to the Hindu community, describing the attack as a “final warning”.

The incident occurred in Chattogram, at the residence of expatriates Jayanti Sangha and Babu Shukushil, locals told India Today. Family members managed to escape moments before the fire by cutting through a fence, but were unable to save their belongings or pets, which were burnt alive in the blaze.

According to residents, a threatening banner written in Bengali was discovered near the gutted house. The note accused Hindus in the area of engaging in “anti-Islamic” activities and warned them to immediately stop all movements, meetings and community activities.

“You are being closely observed. You are accused of acting against Islam and the Muslim community. Stop immediately, or face severe consequences,” the message read. It further warned that homes, properties and businesses would be targeted, adding that “no one will be able to protect you”. The note concluded with the words: “This is the final warning.”

The arson attack comes amid heightened concerns over the safety of religious minorities in Bangladesh, following a series of violent incidents in recent weeks.

Just days earlier, Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu garment factory worker, was lynched by a mob in Mymensingh over alleged blasphemy. Investigations later revealed that Das was forced to resign by his factory supervisors, pushed out of his workplace and handed over to an Islamist mob, which beat him to death. His body was later hung and set on fire, with some of his colleagues allegedly participating in the killing.

Authorities in Bangladesh have arrested several people in connection with Das’s lynching, but the latest arson attack has further fuelled fears within the Hindu community, which alleges a climate of intimidation and targeted violence.

As investigations continue, rights groups and community leaders are demanding stronger protection for minorities and swift action against those responsible for issuing threats and carrying out attacks.
