India vs West Indies ODI Squad: Pant, Pandya and Jadeja in Focus

India’s ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against the West Indies is set to be discussed by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee, with Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya among the major talking points. The series begins on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram, followed by five T20Is from October 6.

Pant could return to the ODI setup after a long absence. His last ODI appearance came against Sri Lanka in August 2024, while his place in India’s white-ball plans has faced scrutiny following an inconsistent IPL 2026 campaign. With Ishan Kishan involved in the Asian Games and KL Rahul expected to remain the primary wicketkeeper, selectors could consider Pant as a second wicketkeeping option.

Pandya’s selection is closely linked to his fitness. India need a seam-bowling all-rounder, but his ability to bowl 10 overs and field for a full 50-over innings remains an important consideration. He has been included in the India A squad for the ODI series against Australia A, subject to fitness.

Ravindra Jadeja could also return after missing the England ODI series, particularly with Axar Patel involved in the Asian Games. Spin options may depend on Kuldeep Yadav’s availability, while younger names could receive consideration.

Rohit Sharma’s role ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup will also remain under discussion. The selectors are expected to weigh experience, player workload and the demands of India’s upcoming assignments.
