Maharashtra FDA Raids Mumbai Eateries, Suspends Cafe Licence Over Hygiene Lapses

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has intensified inspections of food establishments across Mumbai, suspending the licence of an iconic heritage cafe in south Mumbai after authorities found several food safety and hygiene violations.

During the inspection, officials identified problems involving the holding temperatures of hot and cold food, along with improper thawing and rapid-cooling practices. The establishment was also found to have inadequate drainage and insufficient sanitation of food-related equipment.

The licence suspension is part of a wider enforcement campaign by the Maharashtra FDA aimed at checking compliance with food safety and public health standards. The drive covers older and prominent food establishments as well as businesses involved in preparing festival sweets and pharmaceutical supplies.

Authorities are continuing inspections across the state, with establishments expected to follow prescribed hygiene, food handling, storage and sanitation requirements. Further action may be taken against businesses found violating applicable safety regulations.
