L&T and BEL Form Strategic Alliance to Boost India’s 5th-Gen Fighter Jet Programme

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) have announced a strategic partnership to jointly support the Indian Air Force’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme. The two defence technology leaders will form a consortium to respond to the Expression of Interest (EoI) issued by the Government of India’s Aeronautical Development Agency in the coming weeks.

The collaboration aims to strengthen India’s fifth-generation fighter aircraft initiative by combining L&T’s expertise in strategic defence and aerospace platforms with BEL’s proficiency in defence electronics and systems. This partnership aligns with the Government of India’s vision for an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and marks a major step in advancing indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities.

Both L&T and BEL have been instrumental in India’s Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) programme, supplying critical aero-structure modules and developing mission-essential avionics and electronic systems. Building on this legacy, the consortium aims to deliver next-generation technologies tailored to the Indian Air Force’s operational requirements.
