Shree Charani Nears T20I Rankings Record After Stellar Asia Cup

Shree Charani has reached 804 points in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings after an impressive Women’s Asia Cup campaign, becoming the first Indian to cross the 800-point mark in the rankings. The 22-year-old left-arm spinner is now only two points short of Australia’s Megan Schutt, who holds the all-time record of 806 points achieved in November 2018.

Charani’s rating is also the highest ever recorded by an Indian player in the Women’s T20I rankings, surpassing Mithali Raj’s previous Indian record of 780 points, which the former captain reached as a batter in 2011.

England’s Sophie Ecclestone is the only other bowler to have crossed 800 points, having reached a rating of 802. Charani could therefore move into an exclusive group if she maintains her form.

Her breakthrough came during a highly productive Asia Cup campaign, where she claimed 12 wickets. She produced her best figures in the final against Sri Lanka, taking 4/20 as India won the tournament.

Charani had already reached the top of the T20I bowling rankings earlier in 2026, and her latest surge has further strengthened her position. With the Asian Games providing another international opportunity, her performances could determine whether she overtakes Schutt’s long-standing benchmark.
