India currently has adequate crude oil reserves and fuel stocks, ensuring that there is no immediate threat to domestic fuel supply, according to government sources. The assurance comes amid rising global concerns over possible disruptions in energy shipments near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil transport corridors.
Officials said the country’s existing reserves are sufficient to meet domestic demand even as geopolitical tensions continue to affect global energy markets.
Government sources confirmed that India currently holds ample stocks of petrol, diesel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and natural gas.
Authorities said there is no immediate risk of shortages for consumers, despite concerns about shipping disruptions in the Gulf region.
Officials also stated that the government is closely tracking developments in global energy markets and reviewing the situation multiple times a day to ensure that supply remains stable.
The situation has gained attention due to tensions in West Asia, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of the world’s oil shipments pass.
Any disruption in this narrow maritime route can potentially impact global energy supply chains.
However, sources said India currently has more crude oil in stock than the amount reportedly affected near the shipping corridor, reducing the risk of immediate supply disruptions.
To further strengthen energy security, the government has asked refineries and oil marketing companies to prioritise the production of LPG, which is widely used as cooking gas across Indian households.
This step aims to ensure that domestic LPG supply remains stable even if international energy markets experience volatility.
Officials indicated that the government is working closely with energy companies to maintain adequate supply levels across the country.
India is one of the world’s largest importers of crude oil, and global supply disruptions often influence domestic fuel markets.
Because of this, maintaining sufficient reserves and monitoring international developments are crucial components of India’s energy security strategy.
The country also maintains strategic petroleum reserves that can be used during supply emergencies.
Officials emphasised that consumers are unlikely to face shortages of cooking gas, petrol or diesel in the near term.
Energy authorities remain vigilant and continue to evaluate supply conditions, shipping routes and global fuel prices.
If needed, additional measures could be taken to maintain stable fuel availability across the country.
With geopolitical tensions affecting energy markets worldwide, the government is maintaining close coordination with oil companies and energy agencies.
Officials say regular reviews are being conducted to ensure that India’s fuel supply chain remains secure and uninterrupted.
For now, authorities maintain that the country’s fuel reserves are strong enough to handle short-term disruptions without affecting consumers.
