IndiGo Fuel Surcharge Hike: Domestic and International Fares Rise From October 6

IndiGo has raised fuel surcharges on domestic and international flights as ATF prices climb more than 14%, increasing travel costs for passengers.

IndiGo aircraft as airline raises fuel surcharge on domestic and international flights
IndiGo has increased fuel surcharges across domestic and international routes following a sharp rise in ATF prices.

The IndiGo fuel surcharge hike will come into effect for all new bookings made from 12:01 am on October 6, 2026, as the airline responds to a sharp increase in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices.

For domestic flights, the revised surcharge will depend on the distance travelled. Passengers will pay Rs 900 for journeys between 1,000 and 1,500 km, Rs 1,150 for flights covering 1,501 to 2,000 km and Rs 1,300 for journeys exceeding 2,000 km.

The airline said the increase follows a month-on-month rise of more than 14% in ATF prices, pushing fuel costs close to some of their highest levels in the past decade.

International Flight Surcharges Also Increase

IndiGo has also revised fuel charges on several international routes.

For SAARC destinations, the surcharge will be Rs 1,000 for flights up to 500 km and Rs 3,000 for distances above 500 km. Flights to Southeast Asia, the GCC and Middle East, and North and East Asia will carry a Rs 5,500 surcharge.

The charge for Africa has increased to Rs 6,000, while the surcharge for Europe remains unchanged at Rs 10,000.

The airline said the charges for Southeast Asia, the GCC and Middle East, and North and East Asia have increased by Rs 500, while the Africa surcharge has risen by Rs 1,000.

Why Did IndiGo Increase the Surcharge?

IndiGo attributed the revision to continued volatility in ATF prices, particularly amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

The airline said completely absorbing the increase in fuel costs would have required a much larger surcharge. Instead, it opted for what it described as a measured adjustment to limit the impact on passengers.

IndiGo had previously introduced fuel surcharges on international routes in April following a sharp rise in ATF prices during the West Asia crisis.

The airline said it will continue monitoring fuel prices and the situation closely as rising operating costs put additional pressure on the aviation sector.
