Karnataka plans to introduce artificial intelligence training for government school students from Class 6.

Karnataka AI training in government schools could soon expand to students from Class 6, with Chief Minister D K Shivakumar directing officials to explore ways to introduce artificial intelligence education at an earlier stage. AI training has already begun for Class 9 students in government schools, and the government now wants to extend the programme to younger students.

The directions were issued during a review meeting on the progress of the government’s 100-day programmes, recruitment initiatives and priority schemes. The Information Technology department and private partners are expected to support the expansion.

Google has expressed interest in providing AI training in schools, according to the Chief Minister’s Office. Officials have been asked to study the company’s initiatives in Telangana as part of the exercise.

Shivakumar has also directed officials to identify land for setting up an AI university in Karnataka.

Karnataka Looks to Expand Technology Education

The government is also working on the recruitment of 956 teachers on an outsourcing basis.

In another school education initiative, Class 9 and Class 11 students from 941 urban schools will be taken on educational visits to progressive farmers’ fields. Students will be provided overnight accommodation in villages through community halls and hostels. Private schools have also been directed to implement the programme, which is expected to be completed by December.

Preparations are also underway for the development of 1,000 Karnataka Public Schools (KPS). Foundation stone-laying preparations have been targeted for completion by November 14. The government plans to develop 100 of these schools using corporate social responsibility (CSR) funding, with companies already showing interest in supporting 60 schools.

Agriculture and Industry Also Part of 100-Day Review

The Chief Minister also reviewed several agriculture initiatives. Around 25 lakh SMS messages have been sent to farmers under the CM Raitha Chaitanya Agritech Mission, while video messages and chatbot-based assistance are also being developed.

The JFarm app, designed to support farm mechanisation under the CM Negilu Yogi scheme, has registered around 2.5 lakh service providers. The service is scheduled to launch from November 1.

The government has also set a target of preparing 2,000 farmers to become agricultural exporters by March 2027.

On the investment front, 150 proposals worth Rs 43,214 crore have already received approval against the government’s initial 100-day investment target of Rs 25,000 crore. Karnataka has now set a target of Rs 50,000 crore in investments by March 2027, with a goal of creating one lakh jobs through 200 industries.
