Kashmir Snowfall Delights Tourists as Gulmarg, Shopian and Other Regions Covered in Fresh Snow

Fresh snowfall across several parts of Kashmir has transformed the region into a winter wonderland, bringing excitement and joy among tourists visiting the valley. Popular tourist destinations such as Gulmarg and Shopian were among the areas that received fresh snow after a prolonged dry spell, offering stunning views of snow-covered landscapes.

The snowfall occurred after an extended period of unusually dry weather in February, when the region experienced limited winter precipitation. The arrival of snow has now provided much-needed relief to the local climate and revived the scenic beauty that attracts thousands of tourists to the valley every year.

Several higher-altitude areas witnessed snowfall, including Gulmarg, Ganderbal, Kupwara, Shopian, and Bandipora. The snowfall also extended to Pir Ki Gali along the historic Mughal Road in Shopian, as well as the Sonamarg–Zojila axis, both of which are known for their breathtaking mountain views.

Visuals emerging from the region show pine forests and mountain slopes covered with fresh white snow, creating a picturesque environment across many parts of the valley. Videos from Shopian displayed snow-covered pine trees and roads blanketed in snow, highlighting the dramatic transformation of the landscape.

Tourists visiting the region expressed happiness and excitement after witnessing the unexpected snowfall. Many travelers described the experience as memorable, especially those who had arrived during the dry period and did not expect snowfall during their visit.

A tourist visiting Kashmir from Bihar shared that the snowfall made the trip even more special. She said she was unable to hide her excitement upon seeing the valley covered in snow, adding that the moment felt magical and unforgettable.

Gulmarg, one of Kashmir’s most famous winter tourism destinations, is particularly popular during snowfall season. The hill station attracts visitors from across India and abroad who come to enjoy snow activities such as skiing, snowboarding, and gondola rides.

Local tourism businesses, including hotels, tour operators, and transport services, also welcomed the snowfall as it is expected to boost tourist activity in the coming days. Snowfall typically increases visitor numbers in the region as travelers seek to experience the valley’s winter beauty.

According to meteorological officials, the snowfall was caused by a fresh western disturbance that moved across the Himalayan region. Western disturbances are weather systems that originate in the Mediterranean region and often bring rain and snow to northern India during the winter season.

Weather experts believe that the system helped restore winter conditions in Kashmir after an unusually dry period earlier in the season. The snowfall may also help improve water reserves and support the ecological balance of the region.

As tourists continue to flock to the valley to enjoy the scenic views and winter activities, the fresh snowfall has once again highlighted why Kashmir remains one of the most sought-after travel destinations in India during the winter months.
