Leonardo DiCaprio reveals his stepmother is Sikh, surprises fans in India

Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio has surprised fans by revealing that his stepmother follows Sikhism, an unexpected detail from his personal life that has drawn widespread attention, particularly in India where the actor enjoys a massive following.

DiCaprio shared the revelation during a recent interview with Time, while speaking about his family background and upbringing. Reflecting on his parents’ influence, the actor said his stepmother is Sikh and noted that his father was deeply shaped by the counterculture and underground art movements of the 1970s in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

The actor’s stepmother, Peggy DiCaprio, is an Amritdhari Sikh and is often seen wearing a turban and traditional Indian attire. Reports suggest that she embraced Sikhism several years ago and has been practising the faith openly. Peggy married Leonardo’s father, George DiCaprio, in 1995. From a previous relationship, she has a son, Adam Farrar, who became DiCaprio’s stepbrother after the marriage.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s parents, George DiCaprio and Irmelin Indenbirken, separated when he was just a year old. Despite this, the actor has often spoken warmly about his close relationship with both his father and stepmother.

During the same interview, DiCaprio also shared an anecdote from the sets of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Recalling a visit by his father and stepmother, he said co-star Brad Pitt initially refused to believe they were his parents, mistaking them for background artistes because of their distinctive appearance. The moment, DiCaprio said, became a memorable and humorous episode on set.

The revelation has since gone viral on social media, with many Indian fans expressing surprise and curiosity over DiCaprio’s lesser-known cultural connection.
