Naagin 7 Debuts at No. 2, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Tops BARC Ratings

The Indian television ratings landscape witnessed a significant shake-up with the debut of Naagin 7, which entered the charts as the second most-watched show in the country during its opening week. Despite the strong launch, the long-running family drama Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi retained its grip on the top position, according to the latest viewership data released by BARC India.

Produced by Ektaa Kapoor, Naagin 7 premiered on Colors TV on December 27 and quickly drew audiences with its trademark blend of fantasy, mythology and high-voltage drama. The show’s impressive debut underscores the continued popularity of the Naagin franchise, which has consistently delivered strong ratings across multiple seasons.

However, even with its robust opening numbers, Naagin 7 fell short of overtaking Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, which continues to lead the ratings chart. The iconic daily soap, headlined by Smriti Irani, has remained at the top following a recent narrative leap that appears to have resonated strongly with viewers across demographics. The show’s enduring appeal reflects the audience’s continued appetite for emotionally driven family dramas rooted in tradition and generational conflict.

The latest season of Naagin introduces Priyanka Chahar Choudhary in the lead role as the shape-shifting serpent queen. She is joined by Namik Paul and Eisha Singh in pivotal roles. Staying true to the franchise’s signature narrative style, the new season revolves around an intense conflict between a Naagin and a werewolf clan, set against the spiritual and visually rich backdrop of the Kumbh Mela. The fresh thematic angle has helped the show stand out while maintaining continuity with earlier seasons.

Meanwhile, Anupamaa, produced by Rajan Shahi, slipped to the third position this week after holding the second spot previously. Despite the dip, the show continues to command a loyal viewership base and remains a consistent performer on the ratings chart.

The India Television Academy Awards, broadcast on December 31, emerged as the fourth most-watched programme of the week, reflecting strong audience interest in year-end award ceremonies. Tum Se Tum Tak completed the top five list.

Other established shows such as Udne Ki Aasha, Laughter Chefs, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, and Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah also featured in the top 10, maintaining stable performance amid increased competition.

With Naagin 7 off to a strong start and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi showing no signs of slowing down, the coming weeks are expected to see an intense ratings battle as prime-time television continues to evolve.
