Indian television is gearing up for an eventful 2026, with a fresh lineup of reality and entertainment shows set to make their debut across major platforms. From celebrity-hosted game shows and competitive cooking to dating drama and high-stakes reality formats, broadcasters are betting big on star power and innovative concepts to capture audience attention in the new year.
One of the earliest launches on the calendar is MasterChef India Season 9, which returns to television on January 6. Airing on Sony TV and streaming on Sony LIV, the popular culinary competition will follow a Monday-to-Friday slot at 9 pm. This season revolves around the theme “Pride of India,” celebrating regional flavours and culinary heritage. The judging panel features celebrated chefs Vikas Khanna, Ranveer Brar, and Kunal Kapur, promising both expertise and engaging on-screen chemistry.
Reality dating fans can look forward to MTV Splitsvilla Season 16, which is scheduled to premiere on January 9. Hosted by Karan Kundrra and Sunny Leone, the show will air on MTV and stream on JioHotstar every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 7 pm. The upcoming season introduces new twists, with contestants navigating choices between love and money. Adding to the drama, actor Nia Sharma and influencer Uorfi Javed will appear as special “mischief-makers,” intensifying the competitive atmosphere.
Entrepreneurship-based reality television continues its strong run with the return of Shark Tank India, which is set to premiere its next season on January 5. The show will air on Sony TV and stream on Sony LIV. This season’s panel includes prominent founders and business leaders from across industries, reinforcing the show’s reputation as a platform for innovative startups and aspiring entrepreneurs seeking funding and mentorship.
Another major highlight of 2026 is the television comeback of Akshay Kumar, who will host the Indian adaptation of the globally popular game show Wheel of Fortune. The show will air on Sony TV and stream on Sony LIV, though the official premiere date is yet to be announced. Known for its puzzle-solving format and family-friendly appeal, the Indian edition aims to attract viewers across generations, combining nostalgia with interactive entertainment.
Rounding off the list is The 50, a new reality format teased by the makers of Bigg Boss. Inspired by the French series Les Cinquante, the show will feature 50 contestants from television, film, and influencer communities. Set in a grand palace, the format reportedly has no fixed rulebook, allowing unpredictable strategies and alliances. The show is slated to air on Colors TV and stream on JioHotstar, with its premiere date yet to be revealed.
With a mix of familiar favourites and experimental formats, 2026 is shaping up to be a strong year for Indian television, offering viewers a wide range of content driven by celebrity appeal and innovative storytelling.
