Narain Karthikeyan DriveX is a notable example of how a sporting career can evolve into an entrepreneurial journey. Known as India’s first Formula One driver, Karthikeyan entered the business world by identifying an opportunity in affordable personal mobility.
In 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted businesses and daily life, Karthikeyan and his childhood friend Christopher Anand Sargunam launched DriveX. The digital-first platform focused on refurbished two-wheelers, bringing buying, selling, exchange and servicing under one platform.
The company’s growth soon attracted major industry attention. In August 2022, TVS Motor Company acquired a 48.27% stake in DriveX for ₹85.4 crore. By December 2024, TVS increased its holding to 87.38%, making DriveX a subsidiary of the company.
DriveX was valued at ₹176 crore as of October 2022, highlighting the scale of the business within a relatively short period.
Karthikeyan’s transition from motorsport to entrepreneurship also highlights three key business lessons: identifying emerging opportunities, moving quickly from an idea to execution, and building partnerships based on complementary strengths.
