The opposition protest at Akashwani Bhavan in New Delhi turned tense on Tuesday as Youth Congress workers clashed with Delhi Police while attempting to march towards the Election Commission office. Several opposition leaders remained inside the premises as police deployed detention buses and moved to control the crowd after protesters breached Gate Number Three.

The gathering was organised by opposition parties to press demands concerning the Election Commission and the ongoing electoral process.

Protesters Clash With Delhi Police

According to the account provided, a scuffle broke out after protesters entered through Gate Number Three. Delhi Police personnel moved to prevent the gathering from entering further into government property and stationed detention buses near the premises.

Several opposition leaders were also seen being detained in buses, including Akhilesh Yadav and Derek O’Brien.

Senior leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Bhupinder Hooda, Digvijaya Singh and KC Venugopal, were stationed inside the premises under a tree as the situation developed.

Delhi Police officials, including the DCP of New Delhi, engaged with senior opposition leaders in an effort to reduce tensions and disperse the gathering.

Three Main Demands Raised by Opposition

Congress leaders said the united opposition protest was focused on three primary demands.

These included the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the immediate suspension of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and a demand for elections to be conducted using ballot papers.

The demonstration brought together leaders and workers from opposition parties as they sought to press these demands before the Election Commission.

The confrontation at Akashwani Bhavan comes amid continuing political disagreement over electoral processes and the role of the Election Commission. The immediate focus remained on managing the crowd and preventing protesters from moving onto restricted government premises.
