Pakistan Airstrike Hits Kabul Hospital: 400 Dead, 250 Injured in Afghanistan

A devastating airstrike in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul has reportedly killed hundreds of people after a hospital was struck during a Pakistani military operation, according to Afghan officials. Authorities said the attack destroyed major sections of a medical facility that was being used for drug rehabilitation treatment.

Officials reported that the death toll has risen to around 400 people, while more than 250 others were injured in the explosion and subsequent fire that engulfed parts of the hospital building.

Hospital Destroyed in Kabul Strike

The airstrike reportedly took place late Monday when explosions were heard across parts of Kabul. The targeted site was a hospital that provided treatment services for individuals struggling with drug addiction.

Afghan authorities said the attack caused severe structural damage to the building, leaving several sections collapsed. Rescue teams and emergency responders were deployed to the scene soon after the incident to control fires and search for survivors trapped under debris.

Emergency crews continued recovery efforts throughout the night as firefighters attempted to contain the blaze and medical teams worked to treat the wounded.

Rescue Efforts Continue

Authorities said many victims were trapped beneath the rubble after the building partially collapsed. Rescue teams were seen removing debris while searching for survivors and recovering bodies from the destroyed sections of the hospital.

Medical facilities across Kabul have reportedly been placed on high alert to handle the large number of injured patients brought in following the attack.

Local officials described the situation as one of the most severe incidents reported in the city in recent months.

Pakistan Denies Targeting Civilians

Pakistan has rejected claims that the strike intentionally targeted civilian infrastructure. Officials from Islamabad stated that the airstrikes were aimed at militant infrastructure and not hospitals or other civilian facilities.

According to Pakistan, the military operation was conducted against suspected militant groups operating near the Afghan border. The government said it remains committed to counterterrorism operations and does not intentionally target civilian locations.

However, Afghan authorities have strongly criticised the strike and said the hospital was clearly a civilian medical facility.

Rising Tensions in the Region

The incident has further heightened tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Relations between the two neighbouring countries have remained strained due to ongoing security concerns along the border.

Afghanistan has repeatedly raised concerns about cross-border military operations, while Pakistan has accused militant groups of using Afghan territory to launch attacks inside its borders.

The latest airstrike is expected to intensify diplomatic discussions and international attention on the security situation in the region.

International Concern Over Civilian Casualties

Reports of the large number of casualties have drawn global concern, particularly because the strike reportedly hit a healthcare facility.

Humanitarian organisations often stress the importance of protecting hospitals and medical centres during conflicts, as they provide critical services for civilians and vulnerable communities.

As rescue operations continue in Kabul, officials are still assessing the full scale of the damage and the final number of casualties from the strike.
