Rob Reiner Wins Posthumous Emmy for The Bear Nearly 50 Years After Last Win

Late actor Rob Reiner has been honoured with a posthumous Emmy Award for his guest appearance in the acclaimed comedy series The Bear, nearly 50 years after his previous Emmy victory.

Reiner won the award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for playing Albert in The Bear at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The honour marked the third Emmy Award of his career and brought him back into Emmy recognition almost five decades after his earlier wins.

Before this latest honour, Reiner had won two Emmy Awards for his memorable role as Michael “Meathead” Stivic in All in the Family. He received the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series award in 1974 and again in 1978.

In the fourth season of The Bear, Reiner portrayed Albert Schnurr, a businessman who helps Ebraheim, played by Edwin Lee Gibson, develop a new approach for the restaurant's beef sandwich business. Albert's guidance encourages Ebraheim to consider franchising the Beef, a storyline that later becomes significant in the show's final season.

Although Reiner did not appear in the fifth and final season, the FX series paid tribute to him in its finale. In a key moment, Ebra contacts Albert to share the news about franchising the Beef and ends the conversation with the words “as you wish”, a reference to Reiner's iconic film The Princess Bride.

The Emmy honour comes months after the deaths of Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner. Their deaths remain part of an ongoing criminal case involving their son, Nick Reiner, who has pleaded not guilty to charges filed against him.

Reiner could receive further recognition during next year's Emmy season following another recent television appearance. He also played George Washington in HBO's historical sketch series Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness.

The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards are scheduled for September 14, where Reiner is also expected to be remembered during the In Memoriam segment.
