PM Modi Praises Blind Women’s Team for Historic T20 World Cup Victory

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated the Indian blind women’s cricket team for winning the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup, calling the unbeaten campaign a landmark moment for Indian sport. India defeated Nepal by seven wickets in the final at Colombo’s P Sara Oval, capping a dominant run in which they overcame Sri Lanka, Australia, Nepal, USA and Pakistan in the league stage before beating Australia again in the semi-final.

India restricted Nepal to 114 for 5 and chased the target in just 12 overs, reflecting the team’s superior discipline, execution and match awareness throughout the tournament.

Modi, in a post on X, said the victory showcased “grit, discipline, teamwork and unwavering belief,” praising each player as a champion and noting that the achievement would inspire generations.

The tournament, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, featured matches in Colombo, Delhi and Bengaluru. Blind cricket, played with a white plastic ball filled with ball bearings, has steadily expanded its global footprint — and India’s title win adds a significant milestone to the sport’s evolution.

Modi also lauded India’s record-breaking performance at the World Boxing Cup Finals 2025 in Greater Noida, where Indian boxers secured 20 medals, including nine golds — the country’s best-ever showing at the competition.

The Prime Minister’s praise highlighted India’s growing strength across mainstream and para-sport disciplines, reflecting a broader culture of sporting excellence and inclusivity.
