PTI Seeks Imran Khan’s Transfer to Shifa Hospital After Recommended Heart Scan Was Not Conducted

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has raised fresh concerns over the medical treatment of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, alleging that a recommended heart scan was not conducted before he was sent back to Adiala Jail.

The party has demanded that Khan be transferred to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for a CT Coronary Angiography (CTA), a diagnostic test that doctors had reportedly recommended amid concerns over possible cardiac complications.

The controversy has also prompted the Pakistan government to form an inquiry committee to determine why the test was not carried out.

PTI Questions Why Recommended Heart Test Was Not Conducted

According to PTI, the 73-year-old former prime minister was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for medical examinations and an eye procedure.

Doctors reportedly recommended a CT Coronary Angiography to examine possible heart-related complications. However, the test was not conducted, and Khan was subsequently returned to Adiala Jail.

PTI Central Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram alleged that the failure to conduct the recommended test was part of a broader pattern of delays in providing Khan with medical care.

The party has questioned why Khan was taken to a hospital where the required procedure was reportedly unavailable instead of being transferred to Shifa International Hospital, where PTI says the necessary facilities exist.

What Is a CT Coronary Angiography?

A CT Coronary Angiography, commonly known as CTA, is a diagnostic imaging procedure used to examine the coronary arteries and identify possible narrowing or blockages that could affect blood flow to the heart.

PTI has argued that the test was medically necessary due to concerns over Khan's health, including reported heart palpitations, fluctuating blood pressure and severe headaches.

According to the party, medical professionals had previously recommended the examination because of the potential risk of cardiac complications.

PTI Cites Supreme Court Order on Medical Treatment

The party has also referred to a Supreme Court order concerning Khan's medical examination and treatment.

PTI claims that the court had directed authorities to ensure comprehensive medical care, including treatment at Shifa International Hospital.

Sheikh Waqas Akram questioned why Khan was instead taken to PIMS and returned to jail without undergoing the recommended CT Coronary Angiography.

PTI has demanded Khan's immediate transfer to Shifa International Hospital and called for his complete medical records and diagnostic reports to be made available to his family, personal doctors and legal team.

Pakistan Government Orders Inquiry

The controversy has prompted Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to form an inquiry committee to investigate why the recommended diagnostic procedure was not conducted.

The inquiry is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding Khan's hospital visit, including coordination between medical departments and the availability of the required diagnostic facilities.

PTI has said the inquiry should establish why the procedure was delayed and whether authorities failed to follow medical recommendations.
