Actor Rasika Dugal is looking forward to returning as Beena Tripathi in Mirzapur: The Movie, calling the project a landmark moment for the Indian entertainment industry. As one of the country's most successful streaming franchises makes the leap to the big screen, the actor says she hopes the show's loyal OTT audience will embrace the cinematic experience as well.
Speaking about the film, Rasika shared her excitement over being part of what she believes is India's first major transition of a web series into a theatrical feature.
Rasika described Mirzapur: The Movie as a unique milestone, noting that while similar adaptations have taken place internationally, it is a rare achievement in India.
She said she is eager to see how audiences respond to the franchise's move from streaming platforms to cinemas and expressed hope that longtime fans of the series will support the film in theatres.
According to the actor, the loyal fanbase that has followed Mirzapur over the years gives her confidence about the movie's reception.
Reflecting on the filming process, Rasika revealed that shooting the movie was far less exhausting than working on the web series.
She explained that while the cast and crew remained largely the same, the production schedule was significantly more relaxed.
During the series, actors often had to shoot five or six scenes in a single day, leaving very little time to absorb emotionally intense sequences. In contrast, the film typically involved only two or three scenes a day, allowing performers to focus more deeply on their characters.
The actor also expressed happiness about working once again with the original Mirzapur team.
She praised the long-standing collaboration with the director and credited writer Puneet Krishna for creating the distinctive world of Mirzapur.
According to Rasika, Krishna's understanding of the characters and storytelling makes him uniquely suited to write the franchise.
Despite portraying Beena Tripathi across multiple seasons, Rasika admitted she felt nervous returning to the character for the film.
She explained that because the movie exists within a different timeline after previous seasons, revisiting the role required balancing past performances with the character's evolving journey.
The actor said returning to a role after years of promotions and interviews can be challenging because discussing a character repeatedly often creates fixed perceptions, whereas performing requires continual exploration and emotional openness.
Asked whether she feels pressure to meet fans' expectations, Rasika said she has complete faith in the audience.
She described Mirzapur viewers as extremely loyal and expressed confidence that they would continue supporting the franchise as it expands to the big screen.
Mirzapur: The Movie is scheduled to release in theatres on September 4, marking the franchise's first theatrical outing after becoming one of India's most popular streaming series.
