RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat Calls for Unity After Racial Attack on Student

Amid rising concerns over attacks on migrants and a recent alleged racial assault in Dehradun that led to the death of a Tripura student, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat urged citizens to uphold unity, equality, and social harmony, asserting that India belongs to everyone.

Addressing a gathering in Sonpairi village of Chhattisgarh, Bhagwat said people must not be judged by caste, wealth, language, or region. He appealed to citizens to treat one another as equals and reject all forms of discrimination, stressing that removing feelings of separation is the first step toward true harmony.

His remarks came in the backdrop of the death of Anjel Chakma, a final-year MBA student who succumbed to injuries after an alleged racially motivated attack in Dehradun. According to the family, the incident began with racial slurs directed at his younger brother, prompting Anjel to intervene and assert his Indian identity.

The RSS chief also called for equal access to public facilities and religious spaces, describing inclusivity as a unifying force rather than a source of conflict. He said such openness reflects the constitutional ideals of equality and non-discrimination.

Referring to incidents involving minorities in Bangladesh, Bhagwat emphasised introspection and solution-oriented thinking. He urged internal solidarity within Hindu society, stating that discrimination within the community weakens social stability.

On the issue of religious conversions, Bhagwat linked the trend to a breakdown of trust at the grassroots level, advocating renewed engagement and understanding as essential to strengthening social cohesion.
