Rukmini Vasanth Credits Rishab Shetty for Shaping Her ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ Journey

Actor Rukmini Vasanth is all set to make a striking debut in the expanding universe of ‘Kantara’ with ‘Kantara Chapter 1’, portraying the role of a warrior princess. Ahead of the film’s October 2 release, she described the experience as “a huge education” that challenged her physically, mentally, and artistically.

In an exclusive conversation with India Today, Rukmini credited Rishab Shetty and the film’s writers for guiding her through the preparation process.

“It was really important that I, who is not really familiar with the traditions of this region, understand that because it has such an important role within the film. The writers and Rishab sir himself contextualised it for me so that I could understand its space – both in the film and the larger culture that the film is set in. It was a huge education for me,” she said.

Rukmini added that the preparation for her role was intense, involving sword fighting, horse riding, and other physically demanding tasks. “There was a lot of scope for performance in the film. It is very rare to get such a big film in the initial phase of the career of an actor,” she said.

Reflecting on the process, she said, “I really wanted to throw myself at the deep end, and the team really helped me with that. That was a really beautiful process for me. I have grown a lot by being given so much.”

Rukmini, who made her acting debut in the 2019 film ‘Birbal’, gained recognition with the two-part 2023 film ‘Sapta Saagaradaache Ello’. She described her journey in ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ as transformative:

“Rishab sir has written a beautiful and strong role for me to try, embody and to explore in the world of Kantara. That was an amazing experience for me.”

The film also stars Rishab Shetty, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah, and promises a gripping continuation of the ‘Kantara’ universe for fans.
