Kantara Chapter 1 Ranks Among Top Google India Film Searches of 2025

Kantara Chapter 1, directed by and starring Rishab Shetty, recorded strong search traction across India in 2025, earning a place among the most-searched films on Google India’s Year Ender list. The ranking reflects sustained audience interest that extended well beyond the film’s theatrical release.

According to Google’s annual search data, Kantara Chapter 1 remained a frequent topic of online queries throughout the year. Viewers searched for the film not only for its scale and performances, but also for its themes rooted in folklore, land, faith and cultural identity. This consistent curiosity kept the film in public discourse from its announcement through the end of its box office run.

The strong digital interest was matched by an impressive box office performance, with the film grossing over Rs 850 crore worldwide. While dubbed versions, wider releases and festive screenings contributed to its reach, the sustained engagement appeared to stem largely from the narrative itself. Audiences continued to discuss, analyse and revisit the film’s themes across platforms, reinforcing its visibility in search trends.

On the Google India Year Ender list for 2025, Kantara Chapter 1 ranked second among the most-searched films, trailing only Saiyaara. It placed ahead of several high-profile releases, including Coolie, War 2, Sanam Teri Kasam, Marco, Housefull 5, Game Changer, Mrs and Mahavatar Narasimha, highlighting its broad appeal beyond conventional star-driven cinema.

Rather than simply building on the success of its predecessor, the film expanded its universe by delving deeper into the relationship between the divine, the land, the forest and authority. The use of local language, traditions and grounded performances resonated strongly with audiences, helping the film connect across regions.

Released in theatres on October 2, Kantara Chapter 1 emerged as the highest-grossing Indian film of the year at one point, surpassing Chhaava. Although Dhurandhar later claimed the top spot, Kantara Chapter 1 concluded 2025 as the second highest-grossing Indian film of the year, cementing its cultural and commercial impact.
