Senior Congress Leader and Former Union Minister Suresh Kalmadi Dies at 81

Senior Congress leader and former Union minister Suresh Kalmadi passed away early Tuesday morning in Pune after a prolonged illness. He was 81. His death marks the end of a long and eventful public career that spanned politics, governance, and sports administration at the national level.

According to family members, Kalmadi breathed his last at around 3.30 am. He had been unwell for an extended period and was undergoing treatment before his demise. News of his passing quickly spread across political circles, drawing condolences from leaders across party lines, many of whom acknowledged his long association with public life and his contributions in multiple domains.

Kalmadi was a prominent political figure from Pune, a city he represented multiple times in the Lok Sabha. Over the years, he emerged as a well-known face of the Congress party in Maharashtra, playing a significant role in shaping the party’s presence in the region. The final rites are scheduled to take place later in the day at the Vaikunth crematorium in Navi Peth.
