Stones Pelted at Hindu Ritual in Bengaluru’s Chamrajpete, Police Register FIR After Tension

Tension prevailed in parts of Bengaluru after stones were allegedly pelted at a Hindu religious ritual in the Chamrajpete area on Sunday morning. The incident occurred while devotees were performing a puja as part of a local religious procession, prompting police intervention and the registration of a formal case.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place in Chamrajpete when a group of devotees had gathered near a temple for a ritual associated with Om Shakti. The procession was reportedly moving through the locality when unidentified individuals allegedly threw stones at the gathering, triggering panic among participants.

Eyewitnesses said the sudden pelting caused chaos, forcing devotees to disperse to protect themselves. One person was reportedly injured in the incident and was provided medical assistance. The extent of the injuries has not been officially disclosed.

Police officials said the alleged attack occurred near the Panchmukhi Devata Temple, a well-known place of worship in the area. Following the incident, security was stepped up in and around the locality to prevent any escalation and to maintain law and order.

Based on a complaint filed by devotees, an FIR has been registered at the local police station. Authorities confirmed that an investigation is underway to verify the allegations and identify those responsible. CCTV footage from nearby streets and establishments is being examined to establish the sequence of events and determine whether the incident was premeditated.

Senior police officers said teams have been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure. They added that additional personnel will remain stationed until the situation fully normalises. Officials appealed to residents to maintain calm and avoid spreading rumours that could inflame tensions.

Local residents expressed concern over the incident, stating that religious events in the area have historically been conducted peacefully. Some community members demanded strict action against those found responsible, emphasising the need to protect the right to religious practice and public safety.

Authorities stressed that the matter is being treated seriously, especially given the sensitive nature of religious gatherings. They said all angles, including possible mischief, provocation or misunderstanding, are being examined as part of the probe. Police also indicated that statements from organisers, participants and nearby residents are being recorded.

The incident has once again highlighted the need for adequate security arrangements during religious processions in densely populated urban areas. Experts note that even isolated acts of disruption can quickly lead to heightened tension if not addressed promptly and transparently.

As the investigation continues, officials reiterated that no conclusions should be drawn until all evidence is assessed. Police said they will take appropriate legal action once responsibility is established.

The situation in Chamrajpete remained under control at the time of reporting, with normalcy gradually returning under close police watch.
