Vijay Asks Fans to Avoid Political Chants at Jana Nayagan Event in Malaysia

Actor Vijay asked his supporters to refrain from raising political slogans during the audio launch of Jana Nayagan in Malaysia, following strict directives from local authorities banning political activity at the entertainment-only event.

A video circulating on social media shows Vijay calmly responding as fans began chanting the name of his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Smiling, the actor gently shook his head and gestured for the crowd to stop, signalling his intent to comply with the conditions laid down for the programme.

Malaysia enforces strict entertainment-only rules

Ahead of the event, Malaysian police had clearly stated that permission was granted solely for an entertainment programme, with no scope for political messaging. Cheras District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Aidil Bolhassan said that political speeches, symbols, banners, materials, movements, convoys or live political broadcasts were strictly prohibited at the venue and its surrounding areas.

Event organisers also reiterated their commitment to adhering to these rules. Malik Streams Corporation CEO Datuk Abdul Malik Dashtigeer confirmed that the Jana Nayagan audio launch would remain purely an entertainment event and would fully comply with local regulations.

Vijay keeps cinema and politics separate

The audio launch, held ahead of the film’s theatrical release on January 9, 2026, was closely monitored by authorities to ensure adherence to the entertainment-only mandate.

While Vijay has formally entered politics and announced plans to contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, he maintained a clear distinction between his political ambitions and film-related appearances at the Malaysia event. His gesture was widely seen as an effort to respect host country laws while managing the enthusiasm of his fan base.
