Bigg Boss 19’s Malti Chahar Opens Up About Troubled Childhood and Family Conflict

Malti Chahar, who emerged as one of the top six contestants on Bigg Boss 19, has spoken candidly about the difficult years of her adolescence, marked by parental conflict, emotional distress and a restrictive upbringing.

In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Chahar revealed that her life took a challenging turn after the seventh grade, as frequent disputes between her parents created a tense home environment. Being the elder sibling, she said she bore the emotional weight of these conflicts, while her younger brother found refuge in cricket.

‘There was no escape’

Recalling her childhood, Chahar said the family lived in a one-bedroom apartment, leaving her with no space to distance herself from arguments. She shared that the constant tension often spilled over onto her, emotionally and physically, and that the long-term impact of those years stayed with her well into adulthood.

She further revealed that her parents have been living separately for the past 13 years, a development rooted in long-standing compatibility issues that were evident even during her school years.

Dreams curtailed by rigid expectations

Chahar also spoke about facing strict control over her personal choices, particularly from her father, who envisioned a career in civil services for her. Her aspirations to participate in beauty pageants and pursue work in the entertainment industry were strongly opposed.

She said she was discouraged from expressing herself freely, including being forced to keep short hair until Class 11 and being isolated socially. According to Chahar, this lack of autonomy deeply affected her confidence and emotional well-being during her teenage years.

Growing up amid fear and silence

The former reality show contestant also recalled instances of eve-teasing while living in Suratgarh, where her father was posted. She said she chose not to speak up about the harassment, fearing that it would lead to further restrictions on her freedom rather than support.

Chahar added that these experiences left her feeling that she missed out on a healthy and happy adolescence, describing the years after seventh grade as particularly painful.

Battling health issues alongside family stress

Adding another layer to her struggles, Chahar revealed that she was also dealing with adenomyosis during this period, a medical condition that compounded the emotional strain caused by family discord.

She clarified that while her father’s intentions were not harmful, his approach and strict decisions had long-lasting consequences on her mental and emotional health.

Malti Chahar’s journey came into the spotlight through her participation in Bigg Boss 19, a season that concluded with Gaurav Khanna winning the trophy.
