Anthony Albanese Marries Jodie Haydon, Becomes First Australian PM to Wed in Office

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese tied the knot with his long-time partner Jodie Haydon on Saturday, becoming the first sitting Australian PM to get married while in office. The intimate ceremony was held at The Lodge, the prime minister’s official residence in Canberra, and attended only by close family members and friends.

According to The Guardian, Albanese’s son Nathan and Haydon’s parents, Bill and Pauline, were among those present. Soon after the ceremony, Albanese shared a video of himself walking down the aisle with Haydon.

The couple exchanged personally written vows during a ceremony officiated by a celebrant from the NSW Central Coast. Haydon walked down the aisle to Ben Folds’ The Luckiest, wearing a gown designed by Romance Was Born, while Albanese wore a suit by MJ Bale.

The wedding also included personal touches: Haydon’s 5-year-old niece served as the flower girl, and the couple’s dog, Toto, acted as the ring bearer. Witnesses included Haydon’s brother Patrick and Albanese’s cousin Helen Golden.

The event, held privately and funded by the couple, came just after the final parliamentary sitting day of 2025 and six months after Albanese’s re-election.

Notable guests included Treasurer Jim Chalmers, Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Finance Minister Katy Gallagher, ALP National Secretary Paul Erickson, and the PM’s chief of staff Tim Gartrell.

After the ceremony, the newlyweds walked out to Stevie Wonder’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours) and shared their first dance to Frank Sinatra’s The Way You Look Tonight.

Albanese and Haydon first met more than five years ago at a public event in Melbourne. He proposed on Valentine’s Day 2024 at the Lodge balcony with a custom-designed ring. Haydon has frequently accompanied him on official engagements and serves as the chief patron of the National Portrait Gallery.

Before this relationship, Albanese was married to former NSW Deputy Premier Carmel Tebbutt for nearly 20 years. They separated in 2019.
