Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has firmly shut down claims that he took an indirect swipe at Virat Kohli during his analysis of India’s dominant win over New Zealand in the third T20I at Guwahati. Responding to online speculation, Ashwin clarified that there was no rift between the two and revealed that he had personally spoken to Kohli to clear the air.

India chased down a modest target of 154 in just 10 overs to seal a 3–0 lead in the five-match T20I series, underlining the team’s shift towards an ultra-aggressive batting approach. In a post-match video on his YouTube channel, Ashwin spoke about how India’s white-ball strategy has evolved in recent years, moving away from caution and toward relentless intent.

During the discussion, Ashwin referenced the 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa, where India posted 176 and successfully defended the total in a tense finish. He highlighted the impact of Jasprit Bumrah with the ball and praised Suryakumar Yadav for his decisive fielding effort. However, Ashwin did not specifically mention Kohli’s vital 76 off 59 balls in that final, a knock that anchored India’s innings.

That omission prompted a section of fans on social media to accuse Ashwin of deliberately downplaying Kohli’s contribution and indirectly criticising his approach.
