India vs Sri Lanka Asian Games semi-final ended in a one-sided 124-run victory for India, sending the men’s cricket team into the gold medal match against Pakistan. After Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by six wickets in a rain-affected semi-final, India produced a dominant performance against Sri Lanka at the Korogi Sports Club in Nisshin.

India posted 169 for seven after recovering from early trouble with the bat. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi provided the initial momentum with a quick 38 off 21 balls, including six fours and two sixes. Ishan Kishan then anchored the innings with an unbeaten 70 off 42 balls, hitting four fours and four sixes.

Sri Lanka’s spinners extracted significant turn from a difficult surface, but Kishan remained composed while wickets fell around him. Shreyas Iyer scored 13, while Axar Patel, Tilak Varma, Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube could not make substantial contributions.

Bumrah and Axar dismantle Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s chase collapsed almost immediately. Jasprit Bumrah struck twice in the opening over, dismissing Sineth Jayawardena and Sohan de Livera for ducks. Sri Lanka were reduced to 1 for 2 after the first over.

Axar Patel continued the assault, contributing to the collapse with wickets and a run-out. India’s fielding added further pressure, with three Sri Lankan batters eventually dismissed through run-outs.

Nuwanidu Fernando briefly offered resistance with 15 runs and two sixes, but his attempt to attack Washington Sundar ended in a run-out. By the end of the powerplay, Sri Lanka were 33 for six.

Washington Sundar and Abhishek Sharma completed the demolition job. Abhishek took the final two wickets in his last over, including Chamika Karunaratne via a stumping and Binura Fernando to seal the innings.

Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 45 in 9.5 overs, giving India a comprehensive 124-run victory.

India vs Pakistan final awaits

The result sets up an India-Pakistan gold medal clash. India’s women had already successfully defended their Asian Games cricket gold medal last month, and the men will now look to finish their campaign with another gold.
