Congress Sparks Controversy with AI Video of Adani Targeting PM Modi on Birthday

On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, the Congress stirred controversy by releasing an AI-generated video under the trending hashtag #MyModiStory. The video featured a figure resembling industrialist Gautam Adani, speaking in Hindi with a strong Gujarati accent, and alleging that Modi had facilitated lands, tenders, and deals in his favour.

In the video, the AI-generated character is heard saying, “Narendra Modi has been a very loyal supporter of mine. It has never happened that Modi has opposed my orders. Whatever I asked for—factories, lands, tenders, deals—Modi got it done in my name. This is my Modi story.”

The release drew sharp reactions across political circles. While the Congress’s AI video marked a provocative attack on Modi’s alleged closeness to Adani, the day also saw a flood of birthday wishes for the Prime Minister from political leaders, celebrities, and sportspersons.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi kept his message brief, tweeting: “Wishing Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji a happy birthday and good health.”

Meanwhile, the #MyModiStory campaign trended widely, with leaders and public figures sharing personal anecdotes. Former World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand recalled how Modi personally took him out for a Gujarati thali after hearing of his fondness for the dish. Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan praised Modi’s journey from humble beginnings, while Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj remembered Modi’s words of encouragement in the dressing room after India’s 2023 World Cup loss, noting that he later called to congratulate the team on their T20 World Cup victory.

However, controversy deepened as the Congress faced criticism over another AI-generated video released earlier the same day, depicting Modi and his late mother. The Patna High Court ordered its removal from social media, citing it as inappropriate.

The clash of narratives highlighted how Modi’s 75th birthday became both a moment of celebration and a political flashpoint, underscoring the growing use—and risks—of AI-generated content in India’s political discourse.
