Devara 2 Shoot to Begin in May 2026, Producer Confirms Jr NTR Film Is Not Shelved

Putting an end to months of speculation, the makers of Devara: Part 2 have confirmed that the film is very much on track. Producer Sudhakar Mikkilineni has officially dismissed rumours suggesting that the sequel to Jr NTR and director Koratala Siva’s action drama had been shelved.

Ever since Devara: Part 1 received mixed reviews upon its release in 2024, uncertainty had surrounded the fate of the second instalment. While the first film concluded with unresolved arcs and clear hints at a continuation, the lack of updates for over a year sparked concern among fans and industry observers alike.

Addressing the speculation at a recent public event, Sudhakar Mikkilineni clarified the project’s timeline and confirmed that production would begin soon. “We will begin shooting for it in May this year. We plan to release it next year, in 2027. The film will surely be another blockbuster hit,” he said.

The statement comes as a major relief to fans of Jr NTR, who had been eagerly waiting for clarity on the ambitious sequel. Online chatter had intensified in recent months, with rumours suggesting delays or even cancellation due to the first film’s critical reception. The producer’s confirmation now firmly puts those claims to rest.

Despite the mixed critical response, Devara: Part 1 performed strongly at the box office, collecting approximately Rs 428 crore worldwide. The film featured Jr NTR in a dual role as Devara, a pirate-turned-protector, and his son Vara. It also starred Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor in key roles, alongside an ensemble cast that included Prakash Raj, Srikanth and Shine Tom Chacko.

Directed by Koratala Siva, the film was jointly produced by Yuvasudha Arts and NTR Arts, with Sudhakar Mikkilineni, Kosaraju Harikrishna and Nandamuri Kalyanram backing the project. The announcement of Devara: Part 2 was officially made on the first anniversary of the original film, further reinforcing the makers’ long-term vision for the franchise.

While some fans welcomed the update with excitement, others responded with cautious optimism, pointing to past delays in large-scale Telugu productions. Social media reactions ranged from relief to scepticism, with one user remarking that audiences should be prepared for a possible 2028 release instead.

On the professional front, Jr NTR has remained busy since Devara. He was recently seen in War 2 alongside Hrithik Roshan and Kiara Advani and is currently working on a high-profile project with director Prashanth Neel, widely rumoured to be titled Dragon.

With shooting scheduled to begin in May 2026, Devara: Part 2 is now firmly back on the industry’s radar, setting the stage for a continuation that the makers hope will surpass the impact of the first instalment.
