Hinge Founder Justin McLeod Steps Down to Launch New AI Dating App Overtone

Hinge founder Justin McLeod is stepping down as CEO after nearly 15 years to launch a new AI-driven dating platform called Overtone, marking a significant shift for both McLeod and Hinge’s parent company, Match Group. In a LinkedIn announcement, McLeod said he felt ready to “begin again,” building a platform shaped by modern dating challenges and emerging technology trends.

Jackie Jantos, currently Hinge’s President and CMO, will take over as the new CEO. McLeod noted that Hinge’s team is “stronger than ever” and will continue its vision under new leadership.

Match Group Backs New AI Venture

Match Group, which owns Hinge and several global dating platforms, confirmed it is providing pre-seed funding for Overtone. Described as an early-stage dating service, Overtone aims to use AI and voice-based tools to help people connect in more thoughtful, personal ways.

What Overtone Wants to Change

McLeod said Overtone seeks to steer online dating toward genuine, lasting relationships at a time when digital interactions often feel impersonal or transactional. The platform aims to offer a more supportive, meaningful dating experience, aligning with evolving user expectations across the industry.
