Hyderabad Hit-and-Run Shocks Old City, Biker Critical After Being Dragged 100 Metres

A shocking hit-and-run incident in Hyderabad has left a 28-year-old man battling for life after his motorcycle was struck by a speeding car and dragged for nearly 100 metres in the Old City area. The incident occurred late Friday night during the festive period of Sankranti, raising fresh concerns over reckless driving and road safety in crowded urban zones.

According to information available so far, the victim, identified as Sunil Kumar, was returning home on his two-wheeler after meeting friends when a car rammed into his motorcycle from behind around 12:30 am. The impact threw him off balance, and instead of stopping, the car continued to move forward, dragging both the rider and the motorcycle along the road for a considerable distance.

Local residents who witnessed the incident described it as horrifying. Eyewitnesses stated that the victim was dragged for approximately 50 to 100 metres before the car sped away from the scene. The area, known for heavy pedestrian and vehicular movement, was relatively busy even at night due to festival-related activities.

CCTV cameras installed in the locality captured the entire sequence of events. The footage reportedly shows the car hitting the motorcycle and continuing to drag it along the road, offering vital evidence for investigators. Police officials are currently examining the visuals frame by frame to identify the vehicle involved and trace the driver responsible for the incident.

Immediately after the accident, residents rushed to the spot and provided assistance. Sunil Kumar was shifted to a nearby private hospital, where doctors provided emergency treatment. Medical sources have confirmed that he suffered severe injuries and remains in critical condition, with doctors closely monitoring his health.

Following the incident, police reached the spot, registered a case, and initiated a detailed investigation. Efforts are underway to identify the accused through CCTV footage and other technical inputs. Authorities have also appealed to the public to share any information that could help locate the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of speeding and negligent driving, especially during festival seasons when roads are crowded and visibility is low. Residents of the Old City have demanded stricter enforcement of traffic laws and enhanced night patrolling to prevent such incidents in the future.
